Systems Administrator

The Systems Administrator will report to the Director of IT and is a critical part of the IT Department, supporting technology needs for our employees and consultants. You will design, create, maintain, and improve systems that support the work we accomplish, as well as assist with triage and resolution of support requests along with the rest of the network’s IT Department. Together with the Director of IT, the IT Systems Administrator will have an unending desire to improve our surroundings and ensure that technical problems never prevent Merge employees from doing incredible work for incredible clients.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain local and network-wide infrastructure, including but not limited to servers, SANs, firewalls, switches, and WiFi access points
  • Plan, track, automate, and execute maintenance and patching schedules for local and remote server infrastructure
  • Support our developers with your sysadmin knowledge and talents, including but not limited to work in IIS, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL/MariaDB, Apache/HTTPD, DNS, and general web app troubleshooting
  • Spearhead automation and improvement efforts to tie together systems and workflows. Work with departments and the IT Director to source, purchase, or create tools to solve problems.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain a Windows self-service patching system servicing our PC users in Atlanta, Boston, and Chicago.
  • Participate in the monitoring and maintenance of on-site and remote systems and services.
  • Move, set up, troubleshoot, and support usage of conference room audio/visual equipment
  • Conduct both formal and informal training for employees and consultants on internal and office standard applications.
  • Provision and set up hardware, software, and logins/accounts for new employees.
  • Perform other duties as required by the situation and circumstances

Skills and Qualifications

  • Stellar communication skills, both written and oral
  • Demonstrated expertise in the following:
  • Supporting and troubleshooting Windows 7, Windows 10, and Windows Server (2008R2, 2012R2, and 2016)
  • Active Directory, including GPOs and multi-site replication
  • Deployment and maintenance of virtualization platforms, preferably VMware ESXi
  • File server administration, including permissions and quotas
  • Networking concepts including DNS, DHCP, firewall maintenance, and associated network troubleshooting techniques
  • Functional knowledge of Git
  • Scripting in Powershell, bash, and/or Python
  • Knowledge and experience with process automation and continuous integration practices
  • Experience with the usage and management of macOS a huge plus
